I saw this recently in the cinema and immediately completely forgot about it. This anime about a teenager
running away from home and meeting a girl who can make the sun shine is a bit
of a mixed bag. While it does offer some bewildering insights into (what I
assume is) Japanese culture and everyday life, it also provides slightly
soulless computerised animations. The
characters and especially the plot are quite unique and keep the film
interesting (up to a point). Then again, the story – while doubtlessly quite
original to a Western audience – seems to be routed in old legends that are
common knowledge in the country of its origin. So, on account of the film (in contrast to Western
productions) feeling very original and filled with surprising little details I
give 3/5.
