This biographical piece
about “Frankenstein”- author Mary Shelly did not deliver at all. The writing
was superficial, with shallow and one-dimensional characters. The acting turned
out adequate but not great. I disagree with a lot of the casting, too. It
looked so cliché, almost like a knock-off of “Twilight”.
The technical
side of this was of a frightfully bad standard. The first thing I noticed were
the horrible matte paintings and unbelievably bad lighting, which was
inconsistent and unnatural. Also, I suspect they had a number of
cinematographers. There is a chasm of quality difference between some of the
shots that seems impossible to bridge, particularly with the amateurish editing
that was employed. Overall, directing did not seem great.
The only
thing that I can wholeheartedly endorse without reservation is the gorgeous
score by Amelia Warner. Just beautiful. Can’t wait to own the CD.
2/5
