This continuation
of the story from magical Lego land was actually quite a lot of fun and pretty
original. It delivered the same brand of silliness mixed in with some profound
messages about being yourself, albeit with a lot more up-to-date references
(that I mostly didn’t get because I’m old and outdated :D). I did get a few
laughs out of me, and a few tears at the touching ending. What more can you ask
for?
The voice acting was superfun again. I thought
the baby voices were so adorable! And they actually got Jason Momoa to voice
Aquaman! My personal favourite voice was the ice cream cone, though. Visually,
they put the same care into this as they did into the predecessors,
fingerprints and all. I’m sure it’s pretty tough to animate angular, clean-cut
legos in the same frame with real-world items. The score and soundtrack were “awesome”
too, as ever. Incredibly, the credits song was actually one of the best things about
the entire movie, the culmination of an entertaining ride. And that song that’s
now “stuck in my head” :D A solid performance. Definitely a re-watch once I’ve
caught up on the references. There was only about a 20 minute stretch in the
middle where it could have used a little tightening-up. 4/5 The Lego Movie 2 on Imdb
