I underestimated this mystery drama. I
thought it would be just another Emilia Clarke vehicle with her sunny nature
bringing light back to some poor soul. Well, it kind of was that, but her
character seemed more like a bumbling, clueless lady than a nurse. Nonetheless,
this kind of reflected the confusion of the audience, so it was still possible
to identify with her. The creepy husband, child and groundskeeper were
characters straight from a horror movie. The script was a bit random. I think
they spent a bit too long trying to ground this in reality for the supernatural
elements to truly work, but the ending still made for a good horror film, even
though I’m not quite sure I understood it and it seemed like a rushed
non-sequitur... though there was some obvious foreshadowing going on.
The acting was decent. But what really made this film watchable was the
beautiful cinematography. The shots were artfully composed and the chosen
colour pallet of pastel greys and reds made for a dense atmosphere. Beautifully
done! I also loved the score and the theme song by Evanesence (?).
All in all, a bit of an unexpected horror movie, but nicely executed.
3/5 for beautiful visuals.
