Swimming with Men (2018) ***

Source: Imdb
I got this warm-hearted comedy for my mum for Christmas and I was pleasantly surprised but this unconventional feel-good film. Rob Brydon gave an intimate, natural and accessible performance as demoralised tax accountant discovering a new hobby. I also enjoyed watching Rupert Graves as the backbone of the team, a mediator whom you immediately like. It’s particularly funny that the Swedish national team portrayed themselves. The plot was predictable in its broader strokes, but presented in an endearing and appealing way. Everything was beautifully shot and lit, and the editing was fabulous. Last but not least, there were some genuinely funny jokes, with the grating sort of British humour turned way down and gentle running gags taking their place. The film toys a bit with clichés and conventions, but in a reassuringly inoffensive way, quite cleverly turning the jibs into a harmless kind of humour. Would recommend as feel-good entertainment. 3/5
