This mystery thriller (well, when I say "thriller"...) about a guy sort of experiencing the same events every day (not quite like Groundhog Day, but a bit) did not deliver at all. In fact, it took over half the film to get started, but I was bored to the point of almost switching it off after only 30 minutes. The mystery was just too vague and, frankly, stupid and cheesy. They did not manage to get the story properly rolling until the very end. Also, I was super-annoyed by these two beautiful people - really, EVERYONE in this film was an insanely gorgeous young person; so unrealistic! - just randomly falling in love at first sight. Sure, it kind of had an explanation, but for most of the film I was sitting there, frustrated, thinking "things like this do not happen in real life". I hate this trope.
Also, the main character was an air traffic controller, BUT I was once interested in a job in air traffic control and I would be horrified if it worked like that. I’m certain they don’t have physical objects representing aircrafts being chucked around rooms in modern Western airports any more, let alone just throwing them in a bin – what if one falls out? What’s the protocol then? But, more importantly, what air traffic control is definitely not is a place for cowboys: These are planes with people in them. They would never "bet" on whether they are going to crash into each other or narrowly avoid a collision. There is so much safety margin in aviation that situations like this are not supposed to occur, and if they do, it’s a crisis, not a horse race to watch and wager on. There would be people being fired on the spot, inquiries, disciplinary,... and nobody LAUGHING about near-misses. I'm just glad they did suspend him the second time it happened.
At some other point someone gets shot in Grand Central Station – where are the paramedics? In a huge train station like this, there will always be a doctor on site and medically trained staff. Or at the very least bystanders. Instead, the policemen are standing around a dead body, hands in their pockets, and no one is helping the injured person a short distance away.
So, yeah. This was as mediocre a film as they come. The acting was serviceable and the cinematography was quite ok. Also, the soundtrack was pretty cool, but that's it. It failed to engage me, except in a frustrating manner.
Would not re-watch.
2/5
