Jurassic Park (1993) ***

Source: Imdb
I finally got around to watching this classic dinosaur movie; a gripping viewing experience. The visuals definitely stand the test of time. Particularly the CGI dinosaurs have aged very well. Though the script was full of clichés and did have a few obvious plot holes (I mean, how can supposed scientists be quite this stupid?) and the characters are a bit like caricatures, I still thought the overall story was quite unique and compelling. Also, there were some lines of dialogue that didn’t make any kind of sense.

The acting was average, but especially the kids did a great job. What I found really interesting was the pacing of the film and the way it was edited. It has an entirely different feel to it than films nowadays, 25 years later. Overall, I thought it captured the terror of being in the presence of dinosaurs in a very realistic way (if that ever were to happen). The creatures were truly brought to life on screen and were absolutely terrifying. I doubt it could be done much better now, with modern CGI (speaking of, it’s hilarious to see those old computers :D).

Anyway, I could have done without the gore. I didn’t feel like it added anything to the movie at all except raising the age recommendation.

Overall, a solid 3/5 for a classic piece of film history. Definitely worth the time.
