„Fack Ju
Göthe 3“ – I was looking forward to this final part of a comedy series about
delinquent teacher Zeki and his class of misfits. Though this film, as is the
case with many movies, was not as good as its predecessors, it was still adequately
entertaining. I did feel that they were cranking up the crass use of language
and the adult jokes a fair amount compared to the previous two (which were
quite wild in their own way), which might have been done in order to cater to
an aging audience, but that also shocked a few laughs out of me. The plot was even
more absurd than in part 2 of the series, and while in the previous film, the
fact that they were abroad might have been able to cover a few plot holes, this
film was, again, set in Germany, where most of what happened wouldn’t fly.
Consequently, I found it hard to suspend my disbelief for some of the events.
Then again, teenage life is supposed to be exaggerated and satirized here for
the purpose of comedy, so I just let it go (mostly).
Anyway, it
was obvious that the cast was having a lot of fun with their last hurrah. Elyas
M’Barek is just fantastic as the lead, giving a surprisingly complex and
emotional portrayal of his character, despite all the goofiness. Everyone wants
a teacher like that, I think, even if it’s just to ogle him in class. The
script gave him multiple opportunities to show the softer side of a bad boy,
too, which was really endearing. The cast of “teenagers” seems to not really
fit into their roles any more, but they all try their best. I am still
particularly impressed still by Lukas Reiber’s portrayal of Asperger’s sufferer
Etienne.
The visuals
continued the satirical theme with their bright colours and funny details.
Directing and editing seemed competent. There is really not much more to say
about the technical side.
All in all,
an amusing, if very silly, end to the series. 3/5
